In July 2000, Val and Larry Culp were set to transform Carlsborg’s ancient watering hole, the Keyhole Tavern, into Val’s stained glass studio. Then Val, a former waitress and accomplished cook, had an epiphany.
“I took another look around and decided we couldn’t let that beautiful old bar go to waste.” They decided to open a café instead and spent two hard years turning the old Keyhole into the unique, well-appointed restaurant it is today. Larry, a skilled craftsman, remodeled the old tavern in homage to the now defunct Carlsborg Lumber Mill across the road. The result is stunning. Val’s gorgeous stained-glass pieces highlight the striking sawmill décor.
The Old Mill features home-style breakfasts and lunches, an extensive dinner menu for all tastes and a full bar featuring fine wines, draft ales and cocktails made from premium spirits.
In addition to our regular menu, we offer specials every day for breakfast and lunch. Dinner creations by chef David feature fresh caught seafood from our local waters in season.
